Initial Submission

Original Articles, Letters to Editors, Reviews, Short Communications, Commentaries, and Case Studies must be submitted via our online submission system. The authors are recommended to follow the below-mentioned guidelines for manuscript preparation. Cover letter

The information provided in the cover letter remains confidential as it is not shared with referees. It provides an excellent opportunity for the authors to mention the details regarding conflicts of interest or declare any work details that are already under the press or submitted elsewhere.

It must include: 

*Conflict of Interest

Pakistan Journal of Cardiovascular Intervention recommends at the time of submission, all authors disclose any conflict of interest they might have within the cover letter.

*Acknowledgment

All contributors must be acknowledged and related details must be given in the cover letter and should not be disclosed anywhere in the manuscript.

*Funding Statement

Authors should declare sources of funding for the research mentioned. Affirming that they have not entered into an agreement with the funding organization that may have limited their ability to complete research as planned and that they have had full control of all primary data.

Figures

The figures are preferred to be incorporated within the manuscript in a single word file. At initial submission, the figures and tables may not be of high resolution, but they should indicate proper results and data and in an understandable form for the referees and readers.

The authors may be instructed to resend further detailed information and extensive files to better display results after acceptance.

The images must be provided in RGB colour and at 300 dpi or higher resolution at final submission.

  • Use the same font style and size for titles of all figures, recommended 'Times New Roman.'
  • Authors must ensure the visibility of each figure and the use of distinct colours.

Statistical Information

The authors must give detailed information regarding the statistical analysis, the software used, the statistical test applied to generate results must be mentioned. The error bars must be mentioned for each figure. The relevant significant and non-significant values must be added. Provide F- values for ANOVAs and T-values for t-tests, and degree of freedom must be given in both cases.

Supplementary Information

The data files, calculations and background details must be retained as supplementary information and should be provided upon request by the editors. Authors must mention the data availability statement within the methodology section.

Human Subject Data

Involvement of human subjects in any research should be conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki - Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects. Informed consent and all the details related to subjects are compulsory to be submitted along with the manuscript as supplementary files. In the case of a minor, parents or guardians should sign the informed consent. In certain conditions where it was not possible to obtain written informed consent, detailed reasoning should be provided. Thumb impression is considered equivalent to written informed consent in the case of illiterate participants. Permission from the employer is mandatory in the case of occupational participants.

Related Manuscripts

It is the prime duty of the authors to inform the editors regarding any related manuscript that may be under consideration elsewhere or in the press. In such a case, referenced documents may be requested.

Preprint Servers

Preprints servers of research articles are summarized below:

  • Authors are recommended to disclose preprint posting details at the time of manuscript submission.
  • PJCVI fully supports archiving preprints in any recognized, not-for-profit, preprint server, such as arXiv, bioRxiv or medRxiv.
  • PJCVI places no restrictions on the license chosen when posting a preprint version of work.
  • Upon publication of the article, please add the following text to the preprint server:

 “This article has been published in [insert full citation] following peer review and can also be viewed on the journal’s website at [insert DOI].

Appeals

After rejection, Authors are free to make an appeal but only if they have strong points that address the referee's and editors’ comments and decisions.

Manuscript Formatting

Format your manuscript according to the below-mentioned guidelines for all manuscript categories. (for specific study designs, see also CONSORTSTROBEMOOSESTARD).

General specifications

  • A4 size
  • 1-inch margin in all sides
  • 12 font
  • 1.0 line spacing
  • Times New Roman
  • The abbreviations and acronyms should be spelled out when they occur the first time.
  • 3-5 keywords
  • Avoid abbreviations in the title
  • The rationale for the study must be explained by the end of the Introduction section.
  • Tables & Graphs should be sent in both formats (in the text of the research article & MS excel file).
  • The graphs must be plotted using statistical software with appropriate error bars (if applicable).
  • Do not incorporate bibliography from any referencing software (Endnote, Mendeley etc.).
  • At least 35% of references should be of the last 5 years.

 

Original Articles

General Instructions for Abstract & Main text

Title of the article

The title should not exceed 200 characters and should be self-explanatory.

Sequence

Full name of authors, affiliation, corresponding author name with an asterisk* email addresses of corresponding authors, and keywords (3-5 only) must be mentioned below the title of the article.

Abstract

All manuscripts should have structured abstracts to highlight the most significant points of the text. The abstract should not exceed 250 to 300 words, and the abstract should consist of background, methodology, results & conclusion.

Keywords: There should be 3 to 5 keywords only. 

Introduction

The introduction should define the purpose of the article and should end up with the rationale. It should not review the subject extensively or have data or conclusions.

Methodology

How did you collect your data, how did you design it, which software you used for data analysis, and the human subject's recruitment process should be defined in detail in this section.

Results

Tables and illustrations should be merged within the results text of the papers. Each table should have a title and should be numbered sequentially. Any abbreviations should be explained in the footnotes.

Discussion

Comparisons of present findings should be made with similar methodological studies.

Conclusion

It must be mentioned whether the hypothesis in the article is true, false, or no conclusions can be derived.

Review Articles

General Instructions for Abstract & Main text

Types of Review Articles 

  • Narrative review: It mainly focuses on the qualitative view rather than a quantitative one. Existing studies, theories, and models are selected, summarized and compared in a Narrative Review.
  • Systematic review: This involves statistical analysis of findings from several individual studies. Meta-analysis is used to pool the results of individual studies. (for Systematic reviews & meta-analysis, see PRISMA guidelines)

The word limit for Narrative reviews should be between 8,000 and 40,000 words which includes everything from abstract to references, and for Systematic reviews, the word limit is 10,000 words.

Title of the article

Abstract

It should consist of structured abstract to highlight the most significant points of the text. The abstract should not exceed 250 to 300 words. The abstract should be structured as background, methodology, results & conclusion.

Keywords: 3 to 5 keywords only.

Introduction

The introduction should describe the purpose of the article. The rationale for the study must be explained by the end of this section.

Methodology

The methodology of a review article must give an overall representation of the methodological approach. The number of articles cited for the literature review, selection criteria, the databases used for literature search and the papers of which time duration were focused during the search and why. 

Main Body

Sub-headings can divide the main body of a review article. Subheadings help to comprehend the flow of the topic and redirect on what each section is about. One idea or topic must be covered per paragraph. The described research findings must be in link with the research question; several studies must be referred to in a paragraph rather than just one. Link the studies to one another. Compare and discuss their relationships.

Conclusion

Make sure your review gives a clear idea that adds to the points discussed throughout the review. By the end of the review article, the author must state the answer to the research question set in the introduction. This section sum-up your article but avoid repeating the abstract points. To have a clear take-home message that integrates the points discussed in the review.

Short Communications 

General Instructions for Abstract & Main text

It should not consist of more than 2500 words, 20 references, 6 figures/tables. The manuscript should be clearly written and have structured abstracts to highlight the most important points of the text. The word limit for the abstract is 200 characters. (The abstract should be unstructured).

Title of the article

The title should not exceed 200 characters and should be self-explanatory.

Sequence

Full name of authors, affiliation, corresponding author name with an asterisk* email addresses of corresponding authors, and keywords (3-5 only) must be mentioned below the title of the article.

Main Body

The main body of short communication should present a brief or rare observation.

Conclusion

A clear conclusion should be stated, for example, if the theory is true or false or no result can be derived.

Editorials

General Instructions

Editorials should be limited to 1000 to 1500 words, with no abstract, figures or tables.

Title of the article

The title should not exceed 200 characters and should be self-explanatory.

Sequence

Full name of authors, affiliation, corresponding author name with an asterisk* email addresses of corresponding authors, and keywords (3-5 only) must be mentioned below the title of the article.

Main Body

The main body of an editorial must address the contents of an original journal article either to identify errors and make a correction, provide an alternate point, state additional information & evidence. The conclusive statement must be mentioned in the last paragraph without references.

Case Studies 

General Instructions for Abstract & Main text

Title of the article

The title should not exceed 200 character and should be self-explanatory.

Sequence

Abstract

Manuscripts should accompany clearly written and structured abstracts. The abstract should not exceed 250 words. The abstract should be structured as background, case presentation, management & results, conclusion.

Introduction

The purpose of the study should be described in this section. If there is something really special or useful that the author wants to discuss, it should be mentioned in this section.

Case – presentation

This section must give the readers core information regarding the history of the case. The information must be relevant; avoid giving every detail, just mention the information that helped to settle on your diagnosis. By the end of this section, briefly describe the results of the clinical examination. (The text must be in a narrative style.)

Management & Results

This section clearly describes the number of times the treatment was repeated and the duration for which the patient was kept under observation. The treatment plans must be specifically described as many of the readers may not be familiar with the treatment used. The patient’s status for improvement or worsening symptoms must be included.

Discussion

Discussion of a case study must include the established physiological and pathological items, but the author must write precisely and report the questions raised from the observations. Recommendations can also be mentioned along with the discussion.

Commentaries 

Commentaries are short, narrowly focused articles; these are usually invited, but unsolicited commentaries can also be submitted for publication in the Pakistan Journal of Cardiovascular Intervention. It should comprise 1500 - 2000 words with no figures or tables. The word limit for the abstract is 200 characters. (The abstract should be unstructured).
